The 2nd XV soar up the leagues as they head to Hampshire 2 next season!

Not only did the 2nd XV get promoted this year, but they have now officially been promoted by 3 leagues!

As Hampshire RFU prepare for the new season, they have reviewed the league system and after an outstanding performance in Hampshire Counties 5 North (Level 11), which saw the team score 48 league points out of a possible 50 with a points difference of +466, the 2nd XV have been promoted to Hampshire Counties 2 (Level 8) where they will be aiming to make serious inroads and prove that they one of the best secondary units in the county.

The final match of the 2nd XV’s former season saw them line up Winchester 2nd XV in the Rugby Against Cancer cup, where they were just unfortunate to lose in the final section of the game. Despite this loss, the boys proved to themselves that they were able to compete at this level and will be using the result as a motivation moving forward.

Last season, the 2nd XV were known for their free-flowing yet controlled rugby, which saw some scorelines reach some noticeable peaks. With standout seasons from returning players and club stalwarts like Ryan Morse and Toby Colwood, the squad will no doubt be looking to improve their standard of rugby each week, in a much more challenging league to last season.

Of the teams remaining in this league from the 2023/24 season, United Services Portsmouth (USP) are likely to be seeking promotion as they missed out with their 4th place finish last season. It was a well balanced league last year, seeing a range of score lines and victors each week, so hopefully the Greens are able to contribute to this higher standard of rugby and bring some entertainment for the faithful Petersfield contingent.

They will be facing all of the usual suspects in the league next year, as they travel across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, to try and take the league by storm.
