The tournament, well organised and friendly, presented a great chance for Field’s less experienced players to get some quality game time.
As this was the largest tournament the squad - Williams, Bennett, Chinery, Beattie, Clay, Jordan, Whitehead, Tyler, Thomas, L. Chads and O. Chads - have played in this season and the youngsters did well to focus and stay energised.
The young team squad gave a very good account of themselves playing a series of games against Havant, Ringwood, Bournemouth and Winchester. They ended their campaign in the playoffs against local rivals Havant, finishing fourth overall.
It was a fabulous day of tag rugby for the U7s who showed that they are developing in leaps and bounds. All of the players worked well together with effective passing and tagging across the board. Of the ten games played they were undefeated in all but three, winning five and drawing two.
Of all the standout performances, L. Chads had to be the star of the show scoring the most tries with an unbeatable combination of speed and sidestepping ability to leave defences grasping at thin air. Jordan too was high on the score sheet with a good number of tries to help lead the way for the team.
Coaches Beattie, Jordan, Thomas and Bennett gave excellent support to the youngsters throughout the tournament. For the first time in their fledgling careers the coaches were not allowed to be on the pitch with the players. This did not phase the youngsters and they did a great job with a little guidance from the side lines.
