Hi, my name is James Barden, and over the past year, I have had the incredible opportunity of managing Petersfield RFC's social media.
Growing up, I spent much of my life at Penns Place, and through my dad, I feel that I may have genetically taken on his obsession with the rugby club! In September 2023, I started my MSc in Management and Digital Business at Liverpool John Moores University.
From the start, the concept of social media marketing captivated me, and I began putting the theory I learned in lectures into practice on Petersfield's social media.
Since then, it has taken over my life, and every week I get the privilege of showcasing the magical place that is Petersfield RFC.
This obsession has been rooted in trying to align the club's special culture in the real world with the digital world, and in carving a new culture into a sport still holding onto its traditions.
Having this platform to showcase this new-found passion has been exceptionally rewarding and it has been exciting to see the progress I have made from when I started in August to where we are up to now!
As I enter my final semester of my Master's degree, I have decided to use Petersfield RFC as a case study for my research project, aiming at finding the links between social media marketing, community culture, and brand loyalty.
To help find the answer to these links, I have created a 10-15 minute long questionnaire and would greatly appreciate all of your participation.
Whether you're a player over the age of 16, coach, volunteer, supporter, parent, member of staff, your insights and experiences are invaluable to this study and will contribute to a wider understanding of how social media can help create a community and culture not just in grassroots sports clubs but small businesses, online communities, and more.
The data collection doesn't stop there however, I will also be conducting 7 short interviews with members from different age graphic to get a more in depth and rounded idea of how social media has impacted the clubs culture and loyalty.
These interviews will last 10-15 minutes on a Microsoft Teams call with all the data collected confidential. I am looking for a member of the club from each of the following age ranges with any help being greatly appreciated:
* 16-18
* 18-24
* 25-34
* 35-44
* 45-54
* 55-64
* 65 and above
If you have swiped, liked or shared on any of Petersfield RFC's accounts this year, I would greatly appreciate your participation in the online questionnaire. And if you're interested in taking part in the interviews, please contact through the clubs social media or myself through the appropriate channels below:
