Tackling Wendy's Cancer

On Wednesday 11th December 2019, Wendy Wilson received the devastating news that no individual, wife or mother ever wants to hear. Her consultant advised her that the Myxoid Chondrosarcoma she has been living with for 17 years - a rare form of cancer which amongst other things has made her deaf in one ear - has become rapidly more aggressive. The tumour, located at the base of her skull in close proximity to the area that allows us all to swallow and speak, is growing. Without urgent Proton Beam therapy, Wendy faces a life-limiting condition without speech or the ability to swallow independently. Without your help her life will change irreversibly as will that of her family and loved ones. Time is not on Wendy's side, the consultants have told her she will need to have this treatment in January 2020 and that the Proton Beam treatment is not available on the NHS within this time frame. We therefore we need to urgently raise £30,000 to fund this vital treatment. Wendy is a 54 year old loving mother to Mollie and Josh and wife to Grant, living and working in Petersfield, Hampshire. She has dedicated her life to her family and the local community, particularly the rugby community of Petersfield. Wendy gives her all to a number of causes and has actively done so for several years in a way that stands out in the local community, especially given she has been living with this cancer for 17 years. She has been involved for over 10-years at Petersfield Rugby Club, 5 of which were as Clubhouse Manager and 5 as Safeguarding Manager. Wendy is an Ambassador for the charity Mind since 2018 and she works as a carer for adults with learning difficulties in the Petersfield area. She is also the Community Engagement and Partnership Officer with East Hants District Council and was awarded the Gladiator award for services to the local community in 2018. Her actions and voice, despite her own personal health problems, have touched the lives of so many people. Having spent her life helping others, Wendy now needs our help and it is time for us to give back. Please support our ‘Tackling Wendy’s Cancer’ appeal by giving as generously as you can. We need your help please, it will make a massive difference to Wendy and her family - she and they deserve our support.
